Each client of the firm is the primary responsibility of a partner or a senior associate, and depending on the needs of the client, our services are provided by either individual lawyers or a team of lawyers, in a system that aims to optimize client’s access to counsel.
In addition to our in-house legal experience, we are also privileged to have access to a number of highly eminent consultants who provide our clients with expert advice in specialist areas of the law, in matters where such guidance is necessary. Sithie Tiruchelvam is a founding partner of the firm, and has over 40 years of experience representing foreign and domestic multi-nationals in corporate and commercial transactions. She specializes in corporate law, employment and labor law, tax and regulatory law and laws governing non-profit institutions. She currently serves as a director of a major public company (John Keels Holdings) as well as several non-profit institutions (including Nadesan Centre for Human Rights and South Asians for Human Rights).

Asanka Abeysekera has over 31 years of legal experience, including corporate counsel experience at Vanik Incorporation Ltd. (where she served as Vice President (Legal)), a leading local financial services company, as Assistant Manager (Legal) at the Greater Economic Commission (now known as the Board of Investment) and as a Legal Manager at Finco Limited. Her areas of expertise includes banking, securitization, foreign investment law, international trade, conveyancing and real estate and intellectual property law.

Ramani Muttettuwegama joined the firm in 1993 and was made a partner in 1999. Her areas of expertise includes; corporate law, project finance, litigation and mergers and acquisition. She is currently on leave of absence in Europe.

Sharmela de Silva received her legal education and training as a solicitor in the U.K. She has several years of experience working in commercial law firms in Sri Lanka (Julius & Creasy) and London (Scott Marks & Company). Her main areas of practice are corporate and commercial law, telecommunications, commercial leasing, banking and securitization.

Mithran Tiruchelvam is a U.S qualified attorney and has practiced as a corporate lawyer at the New York offices of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. He has also served as in-house counsel for TCS America, a technology outsourcing company in New York. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, private equity, technology and other corporate transactions. He is a member of the New York bar.

Sean Henricus completed his primary legal education at the University of Cambridge and initially served as the in-house legal officer for SriLankan Airlines. He subsequently spent two years working for a law firm based in New Zealand primarily focused on telecommunications, technology and regulatory law across the Asia-Pacific region. He recently joined the firm having moved back to Sri Lanka in 2009. His primary areas of practice are aviation law and airline liability, the regulation of telecommunications and competition law, primarily in areas of technology and new media law.

Laila Nastry joined the firm in 2011, where she leads the Litigation and Arbitration practice. Prior to joining the firm, she spent several years in active litigation as a State Counsel in both the Civil and Criminal Divisions of the Attorney-General’s Department. During her tenure, she represented state institutions and public corporations in civil matters before the Court of Appeal, District Court as well as various tribunal and appeal boards, including the Labour Tribunal and has appeared for the Government of Sri Lanka in an international arbitration, as a junior counsel. She has been instrumental in advising state institutions on a variety of legal matter and has experience dealing with Government contracts. Further, she has conducted workshops and published research for the Law & Society Trust and as a free-lance journalist, has written numerous articles to The Sunday Times and leading magazines.

Lasantha Garusinghe graduated with First Class Honours from the Sri Lanka Law College, and was awarded the ‘Walter Laduwahetty Gold Medal for Excellence’ for the best overall performance at Law College. He served his apprenticeship under guidance of a leading President’s Counsel as well as the Senior Partner of the Firm, and was called to the Bar by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2010. He focuses his practice within the Firm in the Litigation and Arbitration Practice Group.

Nadia Ishaq joined the firm in 2008. Her areas of practice include banking, corporate, foreign investment and other cross border transactions. She was seconded to a corporate law firm in Singapore where she was involved in cross-border M&A and Project Finance transactions in Bangladesh, Australia, Myanmar and Malaysia. Prior to joining the firm, she worked for REVIVE – a USAID funded project and as a researcher for the Legal and Constitutional Unit of the Centre for Policy Alternatives. She is a member of the New York State Bar Association, the Inter-Pacific Bar Association and the Sri Lankan chapter of the American Chamber of Commerce.
