Asanka has over 39 years of legal experience and heads the Corporate Affairs and Real Estate divisions of the Firm. Her expertise in Investment Law stems from her initial work with Sri Lanka’s first investment regulator (the Greater Colombo Economic Commission, the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka’s predecessor) and her continued work with Tiruchelvam Associates. Asanka managed most of Nippon Telecom’s entry into Sri Lanka, conducting an extensive due diligence exercise and managing the investment Law aspect of it. She also set up and managed the Firm’s Intellectual Property Division. She later served as vice president, Legal, for the Vanik Group, which was at that time Sri Lanka’s premier investment banking group. Since her return to the Firm as Partner, she has concentrated on Banking, Securitization, Foreign Investment Law, and Real Estate. She has managed all the Firm’s due diligence work and her opinion is much sought after in the corporate and banking world. She recently advised two Banking and Finance conglomerates on the securitisation and regulatory aspects of multimillion dollar loans involving Sri Lankan companies and property.

Ramani joined the Firm in 1993 and was made a Partner in 1999. Early in her career she successfully managed Pepsi Inc’s investment in Sri Lanka. She is the Managing Partner of the Firm and supervises the Employment, Immigration and Intellectual Property divisions of the Firm. An expert in Telecom and IT Law, she has significant experience in Commercial Contracts, Project Financing and Mergers and Acquisitions. Due to her expertise on Banking and Finance Law, she is the lead Lawyer to Chinas largest Banking Conglomerate on all loan agreements with Sri Lankan banks. She is a skilled negotiator and the Firm’s key representative with regulators, especially the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Laila leads the Litigation and Arbitration practice of the Firm. She was admitted as a Partner in 2013. In addition to her litigation practice she manages much of the Mergers and Acquisition work of the Firm including commercial contracts. She joined the Firm after managing a considerable portfolio at the Attorney General’s (AG) Department of Sri Lanka and is an expert on Laws and Regulations on energy and natural resources and is often requested for expert legal advice by Sri Lanka’s leading energy experts. Laila’s work with the AG’s department has given her much expertise on infrastructure and development related projects and she often advises on multi faceted projects. She is London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LSEG)’s Counsel in Sri Lanka and recently advised LSEG on a change in structure within its subsidiary in Sri Lanka. She is also Sri Lanka’s counsel for Bloomberg and Northrop Grumman. Laila, also advises many of the Firm’s International clients’ engaged in the Global Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Industry.

Michael Paiva heads the Intellectual Property & Immigration Divisions of the Firm. Michael graduated with Honours from the Sri Lanka Law College and joined us after working as Junior Counsel in the Chambers of one of Sri Lanka’s eminent President’s Counsel. This makes him an invaluable member of the Firm in respect of our Mergers and Acquisition work. Since taking over, Michael has considerably expanded our Immigration and Intellectual Property practices and has garnered the confidence of many of the Multi National Groups that he advises including Diageo PLC and its subsidiaries worldwide, Koninklijke Philips Netherlands including its Sri Lankan Subsidiaries and Booking.com

Nirosha served her apprenticeship under the guidance of the senior partner of the Firm and was called to the Bar by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2013. She completed her LLB with honours from the University of London in 2011. Nirosha also completed her Bachelor of Arts; double Major in Marketing and Management from the Edith Cowan University, Perth in which she was placed in the top 15% of the highest achievers and as a result was invited to be a life member of the Golden Key International Honour Society in Atlanta. She has also been a member of the Charted Institute of Marketing (CIM),UK since 2009. Her areas of practice include Corporate Law, Company Secretarial and Labour Law.

Volya Siriwardana joined the firm in 2013 and focuses her practice in the areas of conveyancing and real estate. She graduated with Honours from the Sri Lanka Law College and was called to the Bar in 2003 and thereafter obtained her LL.B from the Open University of Sri Lanka in 2005. Volya has gained vast experience in her chosen field of practice having originally joined the chambers of a leading practitioner in the field of conveyancing and thereafter being appointed as the Legal Officer of a leading Construction Company in Sri Lanka.

Heshika obtained her LL.B with Honours from the University of London in 2014. Upon the successful completion of her exams at the Sri Lanka Law College and thereafter serving her apprenticeship under the guidance of Mrs. Asanka Abeysekera, Heshika was called to the Bar by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in January 2017. Heshika has also earned a Diploma in Management Accounting from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants in the United Kingdom (CIMA) and is currently reading for her Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting. Heshika’s knowledge on Company Law makes her a vital asset to the Corporate and Corporate Secretarial division of the Firm. In addition to her corporate work she also regularly assists the Firm’s Litigation Practice.

Abirami Nithiananthan

Abirami was called to the Bar by the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka in 2014 after serving her apprenticeship under the guidance of Mrs. Asanka Abeysekera. She completed her LLB (Hons) from the University of London in 2013. She is presently reading for the Professional Level Examinations conducted by the Sri Lanka Institute of Taxation (SLIT). Her main areas of practice at the Firm include; Taxation, Corporate Advisory and Corporate Secretarial Services as well as actively contributing to the Firms Litigation Practice.
